Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has made no secret of the fact that he’d like to see a few more departures from Staplewood before the European transfer window closes, and as we continue the buildup to this weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool, the Austrian gaffer has again admitted that things are going on behind the scenes.
With recent claims that Mohammed Elyounoussi could be the next to leave on loan, Hasenhuttl admitted that although permanent deals would suit the club and players better, with the amount of time that remains, loans are the far more likely option.
Speaking to the Daily Echo with a number of names looking to be moved on such as Mario Lemina and Guido Carrillo, he explained.
“There are still a lot of possibilities for the players. Most of them may be on loan but I think the best thing for the players and us would be something permanent because that helps both sides more. There is still a way to go in the European transfer period and let’s look what happens.”
Should moves not go through before September, it will leave some players in a strange position as Hasenhuttl doesn’t have a place in the dressing room for those he wants to move on, and they haven’t been involved in first team affairs during pre-season.
“In the moment I want to be more focused on the players I work with and not the players having other futures in their minds. My job at the moment is to concentrate on the players here I am working with because there is a lot of things to focus on.”
